Why Omegle shut down
In November 2023, founder Leif K-Brooks switched the site off after 14 years. He said running it was no longer sustainable, financially or psychologically, and spoke openly about the misuse of the service by some users.
«New Omegle», APKs, Telegram groups: watch out for clones
After the shutdown, dozens of sites and apps with «omegle» in their name appeared. They have nothing to do with the original. Some work, others are full of ads or bots. Before using one:
- be suspicious of anything asking you to download an APK, file or extension to «unlock» the chat;
- don't enter personal data or card details on a site when you don't know who runs it;
- if links or money requests arrive within seconds, you're talking to a bot.
How to spot them: bots and fake profiles.
Where people chat now
- OmeTV: free, with anyone. The closest thing to old Omegle.
- Chatroulette: the genre's veteran, still running. What's left of it.
- Uhmegle: free, no account.
- CooMeet: paid after the trial, girls only, messages translated in real time. My review.
FAQ
Will Omegle come back?
There's no announcement of that. The original site only shows the shutdown message.
Is Omegle TV the same as Omegle?
No. Any site using that name today is a different service.
